Garlic is a herbaceous plant belonging to the Liliaceae family, just like onion, leek, and
chives. The stem is the only part of chives which are used, while the edible part of garlic is the bulb. Garlic originated in Asia, particularly Iran and Afghanistan, however it is now cultivated everywhere since it is able to adapt to cold temperatures.
