Porcini mushrooms are famous and widely spread, and are eaten both raw and cooked. Their delicate taste makes them suitable for soups and risottos. They are often complemented with polenta, cheese and boiled meat.
The scientific name is Boletus edulis, and it belongs to the Boletaceae family. It has a very large cap, which is brown at the top and greenish-yellow at the bottom, where pores can be found. It has a sturdy yellowish-white stalk.
